Oooo! They went for autoimmune! Interesting!
Autoimmune disease is characterized by auto-antigens produced by the body that start attacking the body’s cells, causing inflammation. Some of them do attack the lungs although as a secondary target; the ones that came to mind immediately are lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Both of them are chronic and tend to target the lung late into evolution. What the emperor is suffering is probably pulmonary oedema so I’m curious how she’ll treat that. IRL you’d supplement oxygen, give diuretics, and steroidal antiinflammatories. I’ll be a little disappointed if the answer is “magic” but i guess anything would be a little bit of an ass-pull.
